Instructional Social Simulation
|
Our immersive, interactive 3D video games simulate real-life communication, allowing users to role play with "socially intelligent virtual humans". We promote extensive levels of engagement, motivation and practice by providing "free form" storylines with very wide ranges of game-play paths, interactive dialogs and action options. For instance, in our Operational Dari and Operational Pashto language and culture training courses, if the user speaks and behaves correctly, the virtual Afghanis become trustful and cooperative, and provide information that users need to advance. Otherwise, the virtual humans are uncooperative and prevent students from "winning" the game. Our authoring tools and the animations they create allow us to quickly create draft review versions and beta versions for testing, and then revise content as needed. By contrast, video-based techniques do not offer this flexibility since they require assembling a production team and scheduling a video shoot, and once the video has been shot it cannot easily be changed. Every simulation is specifically designed to match the profile of its target users, accounting for factors like their age, native language, cultural background, native country, and application. Key design parameters include length, storyline, difficulty, and entertainment level ("seriousness"). Our solutions incorporate numerous innovations that span the fields of interactive simulations, intelligent tutoring systems, artificial intelligence, speech recognition, and advanced software architectures. » Read more.
